We had just arrived in Amsterdam, and decided to get to know the city by taking a random walking route along some of its gorgeous canals. By the end of three hours, we had seen a lot of charming, crooked old houses, plenty of water, and some Christmas decorations, and we felt like we’d gathered a good first impression of the city.

In December, 2024, we dedicated a couple weeks to Amsterdam. Neither of us had spent much time in the city before — Mike for a few days in college, and Jürgen once on a photo assignment — so our first order of business was getting to know it a little.
